Cherry Carta Kim (Seoul, 2000) is a multidisciplinary filmmaker and artist based in Turin/Amsterdam.
Her practice integrates concepts from philosophy, media theory, dreamscape, rituals and religions. Her works investigate spirituality and ethics of living with/in new technology, such as A.I., web 3.0, and post-post-…-post internet art.
By engaging a personal interplay of tension between principles and independence, she explores how dreams, fantasy and creativity originate the human condition. She hopes to create a feedback loop through her works that can facilitate meaningful interaction between human and technology.
Butterfly Dream
Short Film
2025
I went out drinking at a local bar with all my friends.
The same faces, same wine, same laughter.
Then I went to the bathroom to pee.
I flushed, got up to wash my hands.
I looked up in the mirror, I saw myself.
Everything good.
Tipsy.
but then I felt so incredibly weird looking at my face..
I can’t explain what made me uncomfortable.
But I thought if I took one more second into the mirror, I would actually go crazy.
It didn’t feel nice.
I was too tipsy to get out of my head, so I quickly opened the door and fled.
My hands were still wet but I didn’t care.
I don’t think I can play it down anymore.
Like I have to do something about it ASAP.
